Does your kid love animals, books, and interactive learning? Bear Hollow Zoo’s Story Safari half-day Mini Camps are a wonderful summer option for ages 4 to 6! Held at Bear Hollow Zoo, a free wildlife facility located inside Memorial Park that’s home to native non-releasable animal ambassadors like black bears, river otters, owls, foxes, and more, this camp combines learning and animal exploration for a hands-on experience where campers get up close with nature and discover connections between stories and wildlife.

2026 Summer Programming |
Spend your summer at Bear Hollow Zoo exploring the wonderful connection between stories and native wildlife! Campers will journey through beloved authors and books while meeting ambassador animals up close, learning about the species that call the zoo home, creating themed crafts, and participating in hands-on activities that bring each story to life.
Camps meet three days per week in the Bear Hollow Classroom, running Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m
Week 1 | June 9-11
Theme: James Dean Week
Description: Calling all cool cats! Join us for a groovy week exploring the works of James Dean with our favFURite protagonist - Pete the Cat!
Week 2 | June 23-25
Theme: Jon Klassen Week
Description: From animals wearing hats to shapes playing pranks, Jon Klassen's works explore the unexpected with subtle humor, clever twists, and silliness. Join us for a witty week exploring the works of Jon Klassen!
Week 3 | July 7-9
Theme: Mo Willems Week
Description: Hey we've got an idea! Join us for a week of hilarious characters (Pigeon, Elephant, Piggie, and more), funny internal debates, and silly scenarios through Mo Willems' works!
Week 4 | July 14-16
Theme: Oliver Jeffers Week
Description: From crayons to penguins, Oliver Jeffers takes us from Earth to Space all while offering comical, relatable, and imaginative scenarios. Join us for a week charmingly absurd situations filled with heartfelt wordplay through Oliver Jeffers' works!
