A Place for Every Voice at Georgia Children’s Chorus

If music is on your child’s list of interests, this fall could be the perfect time to help them explore it further. The Georgia Children’s Chorus (GCC) gives young singers in the Athens area a place to strengthen their musical abilities and find a community where they can belong. Through high-quality choral training and meaningful performance opportunities, students grow as musicians while developing skills in artistry, teamwork, leadership, and self-expression.

Registration for GCC’s 2026 - 2027 season is now open to students in grades 2 - 12, with a place for every voice, including treble, tenor, bass, and changing voices. Best of all, no audition or previous choir experience is required to enroll.

About Georgia Children’s Chorus

Celebrating nearly 30 years of music-making, the Georgia Children’s Chorus is a nonprofit youth chorus in residence at UGA’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music. Founded in 1997 and currently led by Artistic Director, Natalie Smith, GCC brings together young singers from across Northeast Georgia in a welcoming, supportive community that pairs high-quality music education with opportunities to build confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging.

What Will Singers Learn?

Throughout the season, singers receive high-quality music instruction while experiencing all the fun and camaraderie that comes with being part of a choir. Students work to develop healthy vocal technique, musicianship, ensemble skills, confidence, and personal responsibility, skills that can benefit them both on and off the stage.

And just as importantly, GCC gives young people a place to connect. Singers have the opportunity to make friends, work toward shared goals, and experience the excitement of creating music together.

GCC includes four ensembles tailored to different ages and skill levels:

• Treble Chorus for grades 2 - 5
• Concert Choir for grades 6 - 12
• Lyric Ensemble for treble voices
• Low Key Collective tenor/bass ensemble

All rehearsals take place at the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music. We perform twice per year in Hodgson Concert Hall at the UGA Performing Arts Center as well as in numerous community spaces through out the year.

Concert & Community Performances

Students have the opportunity to take their skills beyond rehearsals and experience performing in front of a live audience. GCC presents two major concerts each year at UGA’s Performing Arts Center and regularly collaborates with local organizations, including the Georgia Museum of Art, State Botanical Garden of Georgia, Canopy Studio, and UGA Opera Theatre. 

Tickets to GCC's two major concerts range from $10-$20, with each GCC family receiving four complimentary tickets per concert and access to unlimited discounted tickets for friends and family. Other community performances are free to attend, allowing friends, family, and community members opportunities to come and support their singers.

Registration & Financial Assistance

Registration for the 2026 - 2027 Georgia Children’s Chorus season is open now through September 15, 2026 for Fall entry, and again starting November 1, 2026 - January 31, 2027 for Winter entry.

• Registration fee: $75
• Tuition for Treble Chorus: $650/season
• Tuition for Concert Choir: $750/season
• No annual uniform fee!

Payments can be made monthly, or by installments. To help make the program accessible to more families throughout the community, monthly payment plans and need-based financial assistance are available. Families interested in financial assistance can learn more and submit an application through GCC’s Financial Assistance webpage. All applications are reviewed anonymously.

No audition is required, and students do not need previous choir experience to register.

Not Quite Ready to Commit? Try GCC for FREE!

Curious about GCC but want to let your child experience it first? NOISE — Natalie’s Open Invitation to Sing and Explore — is a FREE, no-pressure opportunity for students in grades 2 - 12 to experience GCC before deciding whether to join.

Students are invited to sing, explore and get a feel for the GCC community on Sunday, August 23, from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. in Room 200 of UGA’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music. No previous choir experience is needed, and students do not need to know a current GCC singer to participate. Just come ready to sing!
