Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. Even though his birthday is on January 15th, it's observed on the third Monday in January each year. 1. 2025 MLK Day Parade in Downtown Athens
The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement and the United Group of Artists Music Association are proud to host the 2025 MLK Day Parade and Music Festival! Join us for live music, food, and family fun.
When: Monday, January 20th from 3-6pm
Where: The parade will begin at 3pm at the corner of Washington Street and Hull Street in Downtown Athens.

2. MLK Day of Service in Athens
Athens MLK Day of Service is an annual celebration in support of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday and commitment to service. In 1994, Congress made the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday an official day of service. Athens, Georgia is one of the thousands of cities across the United States that decided to make this "A Day On and Not a Day Off." More than 20 different community organizations and schools will host volunteer service projects for the annual Day of Service. Kick off begins at 8:30am inside Lay Park's gymnasium, and volunteer efforts will begin at 10am.
When: Monday, January 20th from 8:30am to 12pm

3. MLK Day of Service: Make It a Day On, Not a Day Off
