Embark on an adventure of pure reading fun!

Children can create their own adventures this summer when they participate in the Summer Reading Program at the library! It’s simple:

  1. Visit the Children's Department at your local library to pick up your reading log.
  2. Read something. Read anything. Read everything.
  3. Enjoy the benefits of reading, and even earn some fun prizes!

This program is designed to keep children actively reading throughout the summer months, which helps to maintain their literacy skills!

Want to earn reading credit?

  • Write down all of the books you read OR mark down every 30 minutes you spend reading. Listening to stories counts, too.

  • Read anything you like: books, magazines, graphic novels, or listen to audio books - all reading counts! When older children read to younger children, both children earn credit! You'll hear a lot of stories at this summer's library programs, so be sure to record onto your reading logs each time you visit library programming, too!

  • Every time you read 10 books or 5 hours, you are eligible for a prize. Click here to view what each library branch offers - once you reach 50 books/25 hours, there are some really cool prizes!

  • Plan your library visits with the help of our 2024 ARLS Summer Reading events calendar. You can filter the calendar to see events by age group and by location.

  • Share your reading journey with others! Talk about what you’re reading with a friend, bring a family member to a library event, or tag us on social media and use #AdventureBegins to spread the word.

Stop by your local library to find out what fun is in store for you this summer!
