By Lacie Dooley & Jessica Sweeney, Former and Current Publishers of Macaroni KID Athens May 1, 2026

Fishing with the family can be so much fun! Don't just hop in the car and head to a fishing spot though. First, you need to get an inexpensive rod and reel combo, a few hooks, tiny weights, a cork, and some bait. You should also prepare by getting your fishing license. Plan to bring some sunscreen, bug spray, drinks, snacks, and a lawn chair. If you don't have a boat, make sure the spot you choose has a good dock, pier, or grassy stretch of land.

Last, but certainly not least, please help teach your children how to respect the wildlife.
