Thankful for Thanksgiving

By Lacie Dooley, Publisher of Athens Macaroni Kid November 22, 2020

2020 has been a decade packed into one year. There has been so much that has happened, and so many new things that our kids have had to experience. While it may not have all been enjoyable, there are still things that we can be thankful for this year. Honey Baked Ham of Athens has sponsored a couple of kids to share what they are most thankful for this year, and their adorable answers are inspiration for us all!

"I am thankful this Thanksgiving for being able to spend time with my parents. It is normally just the three of us anyway but, I know one day I will grow up and not be able to spend so much time with them. I will have a job and my own family to take care of. Since the pandemic started, they have shown me all the simple things in life that we take for granted and how we should appreciate the little things in life and always be thankful for them. I will spend my Thanksgiving helping my mom cook, playing, hugging my family, and enjoying every moment. Family is the most important thing and I'm very grateful for mine. Have a very happy Thanksgiving!" - Eleanora, age 7

"With Covid-19 and virtual learning 2020 has been a crazy year but, there are many things to be thankful for.  I learned new terms such as social distance and what zoom is. This school year I was able to spend time virtually learning with my best friend and we were able to take breaks and play outside. I was able to spend more time with my mom and sister while we were stuck at home. We watched movies, rode bikes, and played games where I had to learn to be a good sport. Overall, 2020 has been an interesting year but, I have come to realize that I am still a very lucky kid with a lot to be thankful for!" - Amelia, age 9

"There are so many things that I am thankful for. Most important to me is, I am thankful for Jesus. I am thankful for my church because I get to learn about Jesus and I have fun and most of all, worship. I am thankful for a family to take care of me. I thank God for a home. Another, most important thing is, I was created. I am thankful for Jesus dying on the cross for us so that we can have eternal life. I am thankful that I can pray and talk to God about anything, anytime, and anywhere." - Jaycee, age 7

“This year I am most thankful for my mom and toilet paper. My mom had to take off work to homeschool me so we didn’t catch Covid. I have enjoyed spending a lot more time with my mom this year that we are thinking about homeschooling forever. I didn’t realize until Covid that toilet paper was so hard to find and how important it for people to have. I wonder what next year will have in store, hopefully not Covid-20.” -Jude, age 9

"I'm thankful for baby Charlie because he is funny, for my sister because she talks to me, for my dad because he cooks me food, and for my Pop because he plays with me." - Ella, age 3
