My Visit to See The Art of Seating Exhibit at The GA Museum of Art

By Davis, Athens Macaroni Kid Jr. Reporter November 18, 2020
Meet Jr. Reporter Davis:
Davis is 10 and likes to make stop motion animation and to make art and other things.

At the Georgia Museum of Art, there is a new exhibit with a variety of chairs and seating that were made up to 220 years ago! And therefore, you should not sit in the chairs, remember, look with your eyes! There are a series of up to 20 children’s and doll chairs on a stand, in an exhibit called “The Seated Child” some with nice warm shades of red and orange, others a pale green. Beneath each chair is a small plaque that explains when it was made and who made them, though, most of the time it was impossible to know who actually made them. It also tells who gave it to the museum and what it's made of.

There is a doorway where you can view chairs that have fancy patterns, or look mind boggling. Some may look like they are from the future, but most of them were made a long time ago! There are high stools made of wood and oval seats made of a see through substance. This exhibit is called “The Art of seating”. There are many other chairs too, there is one that looks like it's made of giant toys. There is also an adjustable wooden lounge chair, and large oval chairs that are green and blue. I thought that the green oval chair looked very comfortable, but you can choose your favorite chair if you go see it.

As well, if you have a phone, there are QR codes you can scan that will send you something that will tell you about the different chairs and the designers that made them. Also, make sure to stay at least 6 feet away and wear a mask, to keep yourself and everyone else safe and socially distanced. The exhibit is open now to January 3, 2021. When we went we had to  make a reservation for a certain time to come, but you can check the website for more details. And, as always, it's free to go see. You will be able to find it upstairs, along with many other incredible collections. Maybe you can check out this new exhibit today.
