Meet Jr. Reporter Josie: Josie is in 3rd grade. Her favorite subject is math and she is a nature girl that likes to draw and paint! |
For my first job as a Junior Reporter for Athens Macaroni Kid, I got to interview La Ruchala Murphy who is in charge of the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation. We talked about the Holiday Market that is happening December 4th-6th 2020.
The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation was started 26 years ago by a group of volunteers that wanted to make an art center. The Holiday Market started as a bigger market with about 70 vendors. This year because of the Coronavirus it will be smaller. There will be around 35 vendors which is still a lot of people who want to share their art. The artists at the Holiday Market were chosen by a committee so there will be a lot of different things and it will be good art. Ms. Murphy said that the Holiday Market is good for the community because it gives local artists a chance to sell their art. Also, it gives the community a chance to buy unique gifts for their family and friends.
Here are the reasons I think people should attend the Holiday Market:
- It will be fun!
- It’s a great place to buy presents for family and friends.
- Kids can afford some of the art because there will be some for $5.
- People will be asked to wear masks, hand sanitizer is around the building, vulnerable people will be allowed to shop early, only people with tickets can attend
- They will sell raffle tickets to win a bunch of art.
- You will be supporting local artists and the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation
- You can buy stuff like pottery, paintings, sculptures, photography, and more.
- Ms. Murphy is really nice and willing to share art. My favorite sport is art and so is hers.
Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation also has classes for kids and adults to learn how do do different kinds of art. It is a wonderful place full of beautiful art and everyone there is very nice.
The Holiday Market is December 4th-6th at the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for kids! You do have to buy tickets before you go because of the Coronavirus so make sure you go to www.ocaf.com.
