By Lacie Dooley, Publisher, Athens Macaroni Kid August 29, 2019

Labor Day weekend is here and so is the beginning of the Georgia Football season!

You can find all the home game UGA sports events on Athens Macaroni Kid's calendar here

Tailgating tips for families:

  1. Keep your kids busy! Play corn hole, balls, books, color, or even small games can keep them busy for  a while.
  2. Be prepared. You never know what you may need, but you can be prepared by bringing changes of clothes, wipes, hand sanitizer, mini first aid kit, and tissues.
  3. Don't forget to have kid friendly food! Here are also 5 easy football day snacks that the kids can make at home.
  4. Keep cool on the warmer days by having an ice chest, fans, and shade!
  5. Looking for a place to watch the game? Try family friendly places like Blind Pig Tavern, Creature Comforts, Mellow Mushroom, Tate Student Center, and Terrapin.

Nursing mama?

Nursing pumps are permitted inside Sanford Stadium! Ideally, pumps are brought in a clear bag but if not, enter through one of the stadium's Medical Bag Check locations at Gate 2 or 6. Two portable Mamava nursing stations are installed near Gate 2 and outside Section 222. These provide comfortable spaces for nursing or breastfeeding mamas!

Below is a great list of UGA themed kids books:
Saturdays between the Hedges by Jeff Dantzler
Hairy Dawg's Journey Through the Peach State by Vince Dooley

While the Georgia Football team is certainly fun and exciting to follow and support, there are several other great sporting events also going on right now for the family to enjoy. UGA Soccer starts up in August and goes into October. Volleyball goes from August to November, is FREE, and is not super crowded so the kids have a little more freedom. They sell snacks, visit Spike, and have cheerleaders. The Equestrian Team's season will also begin in a couple of weeks. The GymDawgs will be starting back in December, have short meets, and really affordable tickets! And don't forget about UGA HockeyWomen's Basketball also runs November - March.
