Whether you've got a toddler, a teen, or a few in between, check out these Athens-local businesses and organizations that are offering local athletics and other programming designed for your kids to enjoy throughout the 2026 season. I'm incredibly thankful to live in a community where there are so many activities to help children to grow, learn, and explore!

NaturePLAY at Foxfire Woods & Farm
Ages: 2-7
What is it: An outdoor, child-led nature program where kids are encouraged to climb, explore, create, and get a little muddy. NaturePLAY focuses on unstructured play, environmental awareness, and building confidence through hands-on experiences in the great outdoors. Big and little siblings are welcome to register. Non-participating siblings 16 mo and under are free.

What is it: A recreational youth basketball league  emphasizing physical health, teamwork, and the basic fundamentals of  basketball. Each team will average two activities per week (practice  and/or game) throughout the season.

What is it: A variety of skill-building tennis programs designed to help kids learn proper technique while keeping things fun and active. What is it: A local little league offering baseball and softball instruction focusing on teaching fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship through local volunteer-run leagues with various divisions. It emphasizes life lessons, inclusion, and fun in a structured environment, with specific rules and diamond dimensions varying by age group.

Ages: 4-12
What is it: A chartered Little League® organization that is run by a volunteer-based Board of Directors, who are elected annually. Young athletes will enjoy instruction in baseball and softball each year through our spring, fall, and All-Star seasons.

What is it: Ran by Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department, youth ages can choose from a variety of active instructional programming for all youth ages including soccer, golf, tackle football, and more.

The Yard Training
Ages: 4+
What is it: A performance-based training facility offering strength, speed, and agility programs for young athletes of all ages through 1-on-1 instruction, clinics and camps. Great for kids who want to improve overall athleticism, prevent injuries, and gain confidence across multiple sports including Tee Ball, Rookie Ball, Baseball and more.

Ages: 4 months+
What is it: Hands-on swim instruction to competitive strokes, and technique and fitness. From babies to teenagers and adults Private/Semi-Private Sessions are scheduled upon request via email and offered year-round ages 4 months to adults. Ages: 6 months+
What is it: Gentle swimming instruction with the objective to get the child & parent comfortable in the water. Classes are designed to allow the child to have fun in the water while the parent guides them to learn aquatic skills. Children are exposed to games that use basic movements such as kicking, arm strokes, and breath control. Parents must accompany infants & toddlers in the water.

What is it: A year-round aquatics facility offering swim lessons, open swim, and recreational programming for all ages. Youth lessons focus on water safety, stroke development, and confidence in the water. Athens Creative Theatre
Ages: 14+
What is it: heatre performance and educational opportunities are provided by Athens Creative Theatre (ACT) that presents a number of theatrical productions annually, including comedies, dramas, and musicals. The program also offers a range of theatre education courses designed to build self esteem, develop theatrical  skill sets, and encourage creativity in performers of all ages and abilities.

Little Characters Theatre Troupe
Ages: 4-17 and 18+
What is it: A playful, imaginative theatre program where young performers bring stories to life through movement, role-play, and creative expression. Classes focus on building confidence, social skills, and a love for storytelling, no prior experience needed. This Spring season, Little Characters Theatre Troups is offering some new beginners classes that emphasize acting or musical  theater, and that our new programs include a Performance Troupe for seasoned actors and an Adaptive Theater Class for students with higher needs.

What is it: A theater fostering arts studio offering acting, musical theatre, dance-infused theatre classes, and seasonal family-friendly entertainment.
