Healthy Alternative to the Sports Beverage

By Julie Dikken June 28, 2014
With spring and summer sports in full swing, busy moms are looking for healthy alternatives to keep your kids hydrated. Here's a way to replace store-bought sports drinks with a homemade version.

You'll need:
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 2 cups coconut water
  • 1/2 cup all natural juice (I used black cherry)
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1/8 tsp sea salt
  • Sweetener to taste (honey, stevia or agave all work great)
Place crushed ice in a container with a lid (I used a mason jar). Add coconut water, juice, lemon juice, and sea salt. Place lid securely on jar and shake well. Add sweetener to taste. Serve cold. Makes about 4-5 servings.

This drink can be served "as is" or mixed with a 1/4 c water, depending on your child's preference. Try experimenting with other flavors of fruit juices for a sure to please, made to replenish beverage!
