About The Publisher: Jessica Sweeney

Hi! :) I'm Jess!

I am an Athens-local, happily married mama of a 3 year-old boy who started publishing for Macaroni KID Athens early June of 2023.
I come from the world of criminal justice having worked in Corrections as both an officer and counselor, and later as an investigator until I was 6 months pregnant. I decided to take a leap of faith and quit the career I worked so hard for to be a stay at home mother, and haven't looked back since.
 
Getting pregnant and having a baby at the height of a global pandemic was ... unique. 10/10 don't recommend haha. When the world around us started to re-open, I was introduced to Macaroni KID Athens by another local parent. I began to actively use the website as a resource to find activities to keep my toddler and I socialized and informed. Shout-out to Christina, the Publisher at the time!
I can easily say that it was a huge help to have local community events, seasonal happenings, and parenting resources gathered onto one webpage to keep me from hunting for them on my own.

As a millennial mama without a "village", I quickly found support and solidarity in the community around me. To the fellow parents I've met and local businesses who always greet us with a smile and remember us by name - thank you from the bottom of my heart. 

My goal as your Publisher is to return the warm-welcome I received from those around me by now connecting families to experiences that they can share together, too - whether it's simply going out for a bite to eat, visiting a local event, or finding something to do outside!
